Star Trek is probably the biggest sci-fi franchise in the world. From several television series, big budget motion pictures to an animated series with all the associated merchandise the creation of Gene Roddenberry is truely a phenomenon. After the cancellation of the original Star Trek series in 1969 fan enthusiasum led to the creation of what is now known as Star Trek: The Animated Series in 1973. It consisted of 22 episodes and was seen as an animated continuation of the original series voiced by most of the original main cast. The series lasted two seasons and was critically acclaimed even winning an Emmy. When aired on the BBC this jigsaw was produced as official merchandise. Being 50 years old the box remains strong and intact. There is some creasing and rubbing at the edges and corners. On the lid is a vividly coloured picture of a poor red shirt crewman being fired upon by aliens while Captain Kirk, Mr Spook and Dr McCoy look on. The 125 pieced interlocking jigsaw is complete. The pieces are made of thin cardboard and are all in good order. A great item for a Star Trek fan, a collector of vintage jigsaws or for someone interested in television memorabilia.
