Description
Used by households for meatier meals, perfect gravy or as an appetising beverage OXO was introduced in 1899, but it wasn't until 1910 that the distinctive cube first appeared. Just imagine in WW1 100 million cubes were made, each individually hand wrapped. To build on this popularity effective advertising strategies were generated as well as making the OXO brand visible to the whole population by creating packaging in which the cubes were sold. Holding different numbers of cubes, metal tins of various sizes were made. This particular item held 24 packs of 6 cubes (144 individual cubes), in fact because of it's size it it was advertised as making an ideal lunch box once the contents had been used up. The tin is the well known red colour with the typical white OXO branding. It is in very good condition, inside and out, with no rust, minimal surface wear and just a few noticeable scratches. The lid fits snuggly. The royal appointment on the lid states it was to the late King George VI so dating this tin to around 1952. A great item for an OXO collector, for a 1950's display or to keep your own cubes in.
