Description
Hollywood, the home of movies, acting legends, the rich and beautiful. A place most of us only dream of but now you could have a small piece in your home. The Craftsmen's Guild of Hollywood began producing "realistic" format stereo 3D viewers in the 1950's. This particular model dates from around 1955. Unlike other contemporary viewers, such as Viewmaster, the Guild's incorporated a focusing wheel so users could focus to suit their own eyesight. The manufacturing was high quality while remaining low priced. The lenses were made from lucite which has good optical properties and their large size gave good light collection that produced a superior bright, clear image. Considering it's age this item is in perfect condition. The box remains intact with good graphics. There is slight fading, and rubbing on the corners and along the edges as is to be expected with it's age. The actual viewer is made of grey and aquamarine plastic. It is clean, undamaged and continues to work perfectly after almost seven decades. Included is a leaflet with instructions on how to care for the lenses. Also in the box are six slides. The images appear to be homemade featuring a British middle aged couple and friends at a dinner party possibly dating from the late 1950's to mid 1960's by the looks of their clothing and hairstyle. This is not a very common viewer and so would make a great item for a collector of 3D steroscopes, or a vintage games and toys collector or as part of a 1950's period display.
