Feel the heat of the Sun, the dust in your throat as you trek the Veld of South Africa on a canvas covered wagon pulled by a dozen oxen. This is the image conjured up by the design of this brand of tobacco mix. Although now frowned upon smoking reached it's heyday during the mid-20th Century and to distinguish between the the numerous brands design was important to entice new customers. Although produced in England by Cohen Weenen & CO Ltd, the design has a very South African or more specifically an Afrikaans feel about it. The metal tin was used to keep the tobacco mixture fresh ready for use. The lid design in red, brown and gold gilding depicts a wagon travelling across the Veld. Considering it's age this tin is in very good condition. There are a few small dents and slight surface wear particularly on the gilding due to decades of use but importantly no signs of any rust. A great item for a collector of smoking ephemera or as a gift for someone with a connection to South Africa.
