These days when planning a train journey we use technology but back in 1956, if you wanted to plan a rail journey, on one of the many different services available you either went to the station or for one shilling you could buy a Passenger Services book. Such a guide provided every piece of information a traveller would need from train times, stations, ticket prices, refreshments, reservations, sleepers and trips overseas. This official British Railways publication covers all services from London Paddington and so includes some of the most iconic trains and routes of the time. Such services included are: The Bristolian, The Merchant Venturer, Cornish Riviera Express, Torbay Express, The South Wales Pullman, The Red Dragon, The Pembroke Coast Express, Capitals United Express, The Inter-City, The Midlander, Cambrian Coast Express, The Cornishman, The Pines Express, The Devonian, and River Thames Circular Tours. The softback book, for it's age, is in remarkable condition. The spine is still strong but heavily creased and a small tear. The covers are clean with the minimal wear. The pages are in very good condition and due to age are beginning to brown. Overall this is a great item for anyone with an interest in British Rail or railways in general, for someone with a connection to the railways or for anyone with an interest vintage travel.
