Description
Advertising for any business is vitally important in order to attain even greater sales and therefore greater profits. Before social media, the internet and expansion of television into every home advertising was either via radio, at cinemas or in newspapers. Some companies chose to hand out items with their logo on to customers and suppliers and this is such an object. The Carborundum Company Ltd, was a subsidary of an American company, begining in 1913 at Trafford Park in Manchester. It produced Silicon Carbide for abrasives and grinding wheels. Believed to be from around the 1950's this pack of cards are in excellent condition. The thin cardboard box is white in colour with red graphics including the company logo of a head of a native American Indian in feather head-dress. On the reverse is a playing card glued on. The box remains strong. One small flap is missing and there is a small area of residual adhesive from a label or price tag that has been removed in the past. The cards are of normal size and are all present including the two jokers. The cards are in clean, undamaged condition. On the reverse of each one is the company logo, depicted twice, in gold gilding on a red background. Remarkably the return slip for if there was a complaint with the pack has also survived and is included. A great item for playing card collectors, for someone who worked at the company or with a connection to Manchester or someone interested in advertising ephemera.
