Description
Nothing produces more memorabilia than a royal event. The Coronation of 1953 was a bright light during years of darkness so production of memorabilia was on a vast scale. This particular item, a ceramic ashtray shaped as the Coronation Crown, is very unusual and quite rare. For a piece that is almost 70 years old, it is in fantastic clean, undamaged condition. The body of the ashtray is covered in fine crazing. The interior is pale burgundy in colour. The exterior is coloured turquoise with gold paint/gilding emphasising the raised decorative detailing of the crown. "ER 1953" is also in gold. In places small amounts of the gold has rubbed away due to seven decades of handling and polishing. A great piece for a collector of Royal memorabilia, a collector of ashtrays or as part of a period display.
