Description
"Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get." In this case nothing as somebody has eaten all the chocolates. This item is seemingly rare as a search of the internet has proven fruitless. As a guess we date this to the mid 20th Century but it could  be decades older. Named as a tribute to King Haakon, the first king of Norway after the union between Norway and Sweden disolved. He reigned for 52 years from 1905 to 1957. The chocolates are still manufactured by Freia and are usually available around the Norwegian national day of 17th May. This cardboard box is intact but has a shabby chic appearance. There are some small creases and bumps as well as rubbing around corners and along edges. The lid design is simply a crown, king's name and a greek key style border all in gold, on a red background. On the underside of the box is the company name, Freia and a border in gold. The inside is totally empty. There are some glue spot residues on the otherside of the lid and someone has written in pen along on side. A nice item for it's age that could turn out to be a diamond in the rough. A great item for someone with a connection to Norway, a collector of vintage chocolate boxes or vintage packaging.
