Description
The last thing on the mind of the heavily pregnant Mrs Miles of St Neots, Cambridgeshire was that she was about to create a UK and eventually a world record. But on 28th November 1935 she did exactly that by giving birth to quadruplets Ann, Ernest, Paul and Michael, who would go onto become the UK's oldest surviving quads and from 2015 the world's longest living quads. In those difficult days to make ends meet, Mr & Mrs Miles would charge one shilling for spectators to peer into the nursery, King George VI even sent a £4 cheque and Cow & Gate became sponsors providing milk. Seeing this as a great advertising oportunity Cow & Gate used the quads to promote milk powder and created official items such as this game of Snap. This item has survived remarkably well over the past eight decades. The body of the box is in good clean condition with only minimal rubbing along the edges. However both the end flaps are missing. The cards, being slightly larger than normal playing cards, are in fantastic almost unused condition. On the reverse of each is "Smiler" the baby. On the fronts are 12 different colourful designs each featuring Cow & Gate products. The pack includes instructions printed on blue card. A wonderful item for a collector of vintage card games, for someone interested in advertising or a collector of Cow & Gate memorabilia.
