Description
Not being a millionaire is no longer a bar from the world of horse racing with this game. This is an example of one of the most popular horse racing board games for over half a century. Constantly in production the box underwent several changes over the years and many of these are available in our store. This particular version is over 70 years old and in remarkably good condition. Being a war time edition the playing pieces are made of coloured cardboard with matching wooden bases and due to restrictions the dice were substituted by a spinner. The spinner itself is rare because when dice were again made available after the war, owners would replace the spinner. The box is still strong and is in good condition considering it's age and the number of decades it was played, however, two corners have split. The lid has a brown leatherette covering with a stylised full colour illustration of a horse race. Due to it's great age the surface has taken on a grubby appearance which adds to that authentic vintage look and the original owner has written his name on in pencil. On the reverse of the lid someone has written, in pencil, some simplified instructions. Internally the cardboard storage tray is in perfect order. The contents are in very good condition. Some of the cardboard horses are folded or missing the odd appendage but this doesn't detract from the game. The rest of the contents as well as two versions of instructions, a message from the inventors and even the factory inspection ticket are present and in excellent condition. As was common during that era, game boxes and contents were sold separately from the game boards and often the two became separated from one another over time. This has happened with this item so please be aware that there is no game board accompanying this item. A truly lovely game this would make a great gift for a keen horse race goer, or someone involved in horse racing, for a collector of vintage games or as an authentic prop for a 1940's themed room.
