Tom Tough Rich Old Flake Tobacco Tin
£15.00 inc. tax
Description
Way back in the day smoking was seen as a sophisticated, glamorous activity with most adults partaking, some tobacco companies even claimed smoking relieved medical complaints. Today we know better but collecting smoking memorabilia has become popular from advertising items and marketing items to packaging and social history. The item on offer is a "Tom Tough" Rich Old Flake tobacco tin by WA & AC Churchman. The tin would have originally held 1 lb of tobacco. Probably dating from the second quarter of the 20th Century, although could be earlier, this tin is in remarkably good condition. The lid depicts a pirate like figure with a peg leg and hook wearing a frock coat and tri-corner hat while smoking a long stemed clay pipe. Beneath is a quote "I smoke my pipe and sing old songs" from the poem "Tough Tom by Charles Dibdin. The colours remain fresh and unfaded. There is some very minor surface wear and scratches which adds to that vintage appearence. The tin was guilded but due to decades of handling this has rubbed off to some degree. There is no rust or dents. Overall this is a very nice piece considering it's age. This would make a great gift for a collector of smoking items, for someone who collects vintage tins or interested in design.
