Louis Bleriot Landing Spot in Dover Postcard
£12.00 inc. tax
Description
This is your chance to own a small piece of aviation history. For centuries man has tried his hardest to fly around the sky like a bird. Just a few short years after the Wright Brothers achieved that first powered flight in an aeroplane another aviation pioneer, Louis Bleriot, succeeded in crossing the 21 miles of the English Channel between Calais and Dover. This postcard records that event of 25th July 1909 and the exact landing spot in front of Dover Castle. The sepia coloured, real photograph shows the jubilant pilot posing beside his aircraft and a crowd of well wishers, including a couple of police officers and soldiers. The original photograph was copyrighted by the Daily Mirror newspaper. Bearing in mind that this standard sized postcard is nearly 110 years old it is in remarkably good condition. The corners have signs of minor wear, while both sides have slight grubby marks on which don't detract from the subject but add to that authentic vintage look. The postcard has not been used and remains blank on the reverse side. A great item for an aviation enthusiast, a collector of vintage postcards, for someone with an ancestral connection to the event or for someone with an interest in the history of Dover.
