Fred basset is the popular character from the Daily Mail cartoon strip of the same name. In 1976 the BBC produced a series for television. This character soap, an official piece of BBC TV and Daily Mail merchandise, was from a recently acquired vintage soap collection which was put together during the 1970's to early 1980's. The original owner has written the date (18/4/79) on the lid. Considering it is almost 40 years old it has survived well. The box remains intact and strong, there is no fading or discolouration. However there is a small tear which is hardly noticeable, some rubbing along edges and some creasing also there are some surface blemishes which adds to that vintage look. The soap is wrapped in tissue for protection. Moulded in white soap, it is well defined and in perfect condition. An ideal item for a novelty soap collector, for a collector of household products, a collector of television memorabilia or a Fred Basset fan.
