Description
Is it an electoric game or is it a calculator? Cleverly, niether but at the sametime both. Dataman focuses on making mathematics fun, as did contemporary rival, Little Professor. Playing the various activities increases your arithmetic powers. Developed in the late 1970's by Texas Instruments this actual item was made in 1980. Many scientific museums across the World have Dataman as an exhibit. Considering it's age and the use it has had this item is in remarkabley good condition. The box has typically 1970's graphics and although not faded there is slight creasing, some rubbing along the edges and corners, and the surface has taken on a grubby appearance which adds to that authentic vintage look. Internally the cardboard storage is very slightly creased and has a couple of small tears. The Dataman handset works perfectly with a green display. It is in clean, undamaged condition. However the original owner has "Tipexed" their name in several places but this has been done very neatly and probably done so Dataman could be taken to school on the last day of term when playing quiet games was the order of the day. The hand set is also accompanied by 13 large cards that detail how to play the various games such as Wipe Out, Electro Flash, Starmath Race and Force Out. Also included are two double sided game boards. The original guarentee from WH Smith was found inside the box, detailing the purchase on 15/06/1981 for the sum of £14.95. A great piece for someone interested in vinatge electronic technology and games, as part of a display in an exhibition or as originally intended as a fun way to improve your arithmetic.
