Description
For young children of the 1960's and 1970's, listening to the calming tones of Brian Cant narrating an episode of Camberwick Green and other associated series were mesmerising. Although the 13 episodes were first televised in early 1966, they were so popular that they were continually repeated for the next two decades. Capitalising on this popularity, officially authorised BBC TV merchandise items were manufactured and this piece of Camberwick Green memorabilia is such an item. Dating from 1970 the box and playing board feature the characters of the series such as Windy Miller. Being almost 50 years old the box is beginning to tire. Although still strong and intact one corner has split, there is slight creasing caused by crushing and some rubbing to the edges but this adds to that authentic vintage look. The lid has a colour photograph of the TV series as well as a depiction of the board with further drawings of the Camberwick Green characters. It retains the original colouring but has taken on a slight grubby appearance. On one side of the lid are printed the instructions for playing the game. The folding playing board is made from thin card and in good condition. In full colour it shows many of the characters. The board is unfaded with just a slight crease and a grubby surface appearance. Also included is a yellow plastic shaker which has two cracks in, a small plastic die and sets of four plastic counters each of yellow, green, blue and red. A great inexpensive item for a collector of classic 1960's/1970's television memorabilia, for a collector of vintage games, a collector of Camberwick Green/Trumpington memorabilia or as a piece for a themed display.
