A truly wonderful looking vintage biscuit tin. Probably dating from the early part of the 20th Century this item was manufactured to hold free samples of CWS (Co-operative Wholesale Society) biscuits. Considering it's age this tin has remained in exceptional condition with no rust and strong, workable hinges. There is one bump to the side of the lid which is hardly noticeable, some of the gilding has rubbed off along the front and rear edges of the lid due to decades of use and there is some slight surface blemishes but these do not detract from the sheer beauty of the tin. The decoration is amazing, somehow the manufacturers have been able to achieve a colourful iridescent appearance. The illustration shows an orange/red/yellow butterfly about to land on a blue/purple flowered plant. Around the edges of the tin there are linked, silver coloured, stylised leaves and flowers on a blue background. On the underside the original metal surface has darkened with age and the words "C.W.S Biscuits Free Sample" can be seen. A great item ideal for a collector of vintage tins, a collector of CWS or advertising items, a plant or butterfly enthusiast, or as a prop for an early 20th Century themed room or simply as a decorative and useful item suitable for any room in the house.
