Description
Air travel has never been more common than today. No one thinks twice about sitting in a smoke free cabin awaiting take off to a holiday destination but believe it or not smoking on aircraft wasn't finally phased out completely until the mid 1990's. This item evokes air travel from decades before. Tobacconists, Benson & Hedges, specially packaged cigarettes for British European Airways (BEA) which merged with BOAC to form British Airways in 1974. Originally holding 20 small cigarettes this would have probably been purchased onboard the plane. Made from very thin and lightweight metal, the tin is in excellent condition with no scratches and minimal dents. The hinge is in perfect working order. The gold and red colouring is unfaded. The lid surface has sticky residue of a removed label which is noticeable on close inspection but doesn't obscure the lettering. The silver interior remains clean and rust free. On the inside of the lid is the airline name and motiff and the words "Silver Wing". A great vintage item ideal for any collector of airline memorabilia, or a collector of smoking memorabilia or for someone who collects vintage tins.
